Newsletter
August 2020

Becoming a member of ORK allows us to continue the important work of testing water quality, sharing stories from the watershed, fighting legal battles, providing recreational guidance, and coordinating cleanup efforts across our 5,500 square-mile territory.

In addition to the various perks ORK offers our members, adding your name to our membership list is critical to our legislative efforts and grant applications. Having a strong team behind us shows that our constituents support our work.

New in the store!

We now have hats in the store. Choose from blue camo or black with the official logo stitched into the cap.

The official ORK logo is stitched onto a blue camouflage or flat black background. Hat is made from cotton-poly and nylon mesh. It features a pre-curved visor and plastic snapback adjustable closure.

Proceeds benefit Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s mission to protect, preserve, and improve the water quality of the Ogeechee River basin.

Price includes shipping. Grab yours now.

Pocket gopher

Pocket gophers are fossorial creatures, meaning they are excellent diggers and prefer to burrow. They flourish  in the type of soil found under the longleaf pine, which makes them very happy in the Ogeechee River basin. With giant front teeth and long claws, they look threatening, but are mostly harmless rodents.

Thanks to Thomas and Ben!

These two young men have been spending time picking up litter and trash in the Ogeechee River this summer.

They're getting dirty to keep the river clean!

Poetry contest

Turn to the outdoors for poetic inspiration. Sit and observe nature for a few minutes. Notice what you hear, smell and feel. Take your impressions, focus on specific descriptions, and compose a short poem.

Submit your entry by Wednesday, September 30, 2020 to info@ogeecheeriverkeeper.org.

Donor Advised Funds

Do you have a Donor Advised Fund (DAF)? You can help Ogeechee Riverkeeper qualify for up to $25,000 in matching grant fund. ORK is participating in the #HalfMyDAF challenge to encourage donors and foundations to give between now and September 30.

Questions? Contact Ogeechee Riverkeeper.

Adopt-A-Landing

We are coordinating individual litter pickups and are encouraging families and households to adopt a spot on the river and commit to checking it for litter regularly.

Our goal is to have each location ‘adopted’ by a dedicated crew who will make sure the litter is collected and disposed of properly.

#ORKoutside

Take pictures on the river, on a walk, gazing at stars, watching for bird, catching a fish, anything you enjoy doing outdoors.

Share images from your time in the Ogeechee River watershed by tagging us and using hashtag #ORKoutside on your social media accounts.

There are many ways you can help the Ogeechee Riverkeeper protect, preserve and improve the waterways within the basin.
