Protect the Vernon

Ogeechee Riverkeeper (ORK) and the City of Savannah are partnering to lead a long term project to protect the water quality and ecology of the Vernon River. The Vernon River receives a significant amount of the stormwater via Wilshire Canal, Harmon Canal, Casey Canal, and Hayners Creek, all part of the Ogeechee River watershed. The goal is to improve water quality, restore ecological habitat, and “Protect The Vernon River” from current and future threats.

Congratulations

to Anna, Steve, and Keith - the winners of our membership drive drawings! Our annual membership drive is finished, but you can can still join today. In addition to the various members-only perks, adding your name to our membership list is critical to our legislative efforts and grant applications.

Corporate sponsorships

Ogeechee Riverkeeper offers annual corporate sponsorships with multiple levels of giving. Your annual sponsorship comes with a number of perks (including company-only events and tickets to our annual Oyster Roast), supports us in our ongoing efforts, and helps us reach more people in our watershed.

Fund a Need - Drone

ORK needs to raise $1,000 to purchase a drone. The equipment will allow ORK to investigate potential pollution sources as well as share beautiful images from across the watershed.

Volunteer cleanups

ORK has coordinated a number of cleanups. Most recently a group of volunteers dragged out 860 pounds of trash of the banks of the Canoochee River last weekend!

ORK also encourages families and households to adopt a spot on the river and commit to checking it for litter regularly.

Eudocimus albus

The white ibis is a wading bird that lives in coastal areas, marshes, wetlands, riverbanks, and swamps, and is common in the lower part of the Ogeechee and Canoochee Rivers. Though they may be seen in coastal areas, they feed and live in freshwater habitats.
