Ogeechee Riverkeeper®

April 2022

Your last few days to enter to win!

Anyone who becomes an automatically renewing member in the month of April will be entered in a drawing to win:

  • An ORK branded corn hole set
  • An air fryer
  • A Keurig coffee maker

Becoming a member of ORK allows us to continue the important work of testing water quality, sharing stories from the watershed, fighting legal battles, providing recreational guidance, and coordinating cleanup efforts in our 5,500 square-mile territory across 22 Georgia counties.

Meet our newest interns!

Meet Gabby and Garrett! They are interns from Savannah State University and are currently earning their marine sciences degrees. They will be working with us on Protect The Vernon litter analysis under a grant from National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.

Members Only: Advanced Paddle

This is a middle watershed paddle between Bennett’s Landing and Hwy 25 Landing on the Ogeechee River. This paddle will be held May 21 is not advisable for novice paddlers. Pre-registration is required. Please contact Mill Pond Kayak directly for gear reservations.

Cleanup with Asbury Memorial

Members of Asbury Memorial Church created a flotilla of litter pickers to clean up where the Harmon Canal enters the Vernon River. Forty percent of stormwater from the City of Savannah drains to the Vernon. Despite pulling out more than 300 pounds of trash, there is much to be done.

Soft baseball caps are in stock!

We've got soft twill fabric baseball caps -- in three colorways -- ready for your summer plans. Choose from khaki, blue, or mint. All have vegan leather ORK patches and adjustable strap backs. Show your support for our waterways!

Botany & Brews: Tree Walk at Skidaway Island State Park

Tree expert Sydney Young will lead a guided tour of tree species found throughout the park with an emphasis on their importance to our watershed’s health. This members-only event will be held June 4. Please register in advance.

Clean 13 Celebration

Join Georgia Water Coalition for a family-friendly event Sunday, May 22, 2-5 p.m. at Fall Line Brewery in Macon to recognize the 2021 Clean 13 Water Heroes. Enjoy music, food, beer, and short documentaries about the GWC and the Clean 13 awardees. All are welcome to attend. Tickets are $35 and include beer, wine and appetizers.

Types of crayfish in ORK's basin

With so much aquatic diversity in the basin, what you might see in the upper part of the basin can be completely different from what you might see near the coast. That’s because, even though the river is well connected from top to bottom, the habitats found in the upper part of the basin are completely different from the coastal habitats.

Upcoming Events

There are many ways you can help the Ogeechee Riverkeeper protect, preserve and improve the waterways within our basin.
