AND most importantly, it supports the crucial work of ORK.

Blackwater Barons

ORK has teamed up with local artist Juliana Smith to create a custom artwork entitled “Blackwater Barons” featuring the plants and wildlife in the Ogeechee River watershed. Juliana designed the piece, carved the linocut by hand, and pulled a limited number of prints. Each print is signed and numbered by the artist.

Members Only: Photography workshop

ORK and Parker Stewart will host a members-only nature photography workshop on October 7. This low country landscape photography workshop will focus on how to best capture the water, light, flora, and fauna, and ways everyone can use photography as a tool to tell a story about a place and its beauty.

Dog Days of Summer

The month of August is historically known as the Dog Days of Summer which refers to a period of particularly hot and humid weather occurring during the summer months. To celebrate, our pet bandanas will be on sale for $7 for the rest of August.

ORK intern headed to Yale

James Burke first came to ORK by taking the initiative at his school to raise money for our organization, as a part of a student fundraiser. He helped pave the way for future high school interns and wish him all the best at Yale! Read his memories of working with ORK.

More about Mel

Mel is the education and outreach coordinator for ORK, which means she is often found in classrooms, at outdoor events, or in the creek leading a cleanup. She works to make sure the public has access to the resources ORK has to offer and to make sure citizens have plenty of chances to interact with ORK’s many facets.

Hannah's landing project

There is a high amount of trash present along the river in Bulloch County. For this project, Hannah Dugan, ORK's lead volunteer and summer intern, placed trash cans at the boat ramps. The cans are managed by volunteers, being emptied on a monthly basis.

Birds & Bins

Come join ORK, Ogeechee Audubon, and Ford Field and River Club for a birding walk and litter cleanup on September 16. Co-leaders will help locate and identify birds, educate us about the southern part of the Ogeechee watershed while we cleanup the waterways.

Legal advocacy

One of ORK's roles is to provide expert comments on applications regarding water quality impacts. Recently, ORK has written official responses several applications and proposals. All are available online

River's Alive

Jenkins County regional landfill

ORK supports the citizens of Jenkins County in their fight against a proposed regional landfill. We encourage anyone who wants to protect the river and the area's environment to sign on to the petition. You don't have to live in Jenkins County to sign the petition or to be involved.
