Help defeat HB 1146

Unfortunately, citizens and experts who were on the schedule to speak at the committee hearing were told moments before it began that opposition comments would be limited to two people, for two minutes each. This meant citizens who travelled to the Capitol from Bulloch and Bryan Counties were not heard

However, the supporters who will profit from this bill, were allowed to speak at length, and were able to repeat talking points that have been debunked. We need every citizen who will be affected by this bill to speak out and tell their senator to oppose HB 1146.

A fun day by the river

The finish line for the Canoochee Paddle Race at Rocks River will also serve as the headquarters for fun during and after the race. There will be music from Chris Stalcup, food and drink from food trucks including Picho's and Road-Tisserie, and Norburg Chiropractic will be offering free massages. Trophies will be presented for timed winners as well as outlandish categories like Dynamic Duo, Funkiest Costume, Most Creative Boat, and the Lazy River Award for the slowest paddler. Raffle tickets and official merchandise will also be available.

Look up your legislators

ORK has two ways to help citizens find their legislators. Enter your address and zip code for a list of representatives that shows where each legislator works. Start now.

You can also send messages via protectgeorgia.org. We'll even get you started with a template!

Adopt-A-Landing

ORK is encouraging families and households to adopt a spot on the river and commit to checking it for litter regularly. Our goal is to have each location ‘adopted’ by a dedicated crew who will make sure the litter is collected and disposed of properly.

Canoochee Cleanup

We need your help with make sure the landings are ready for the Canoochee Paddle Race. Join us April 10, 4-6 p.m. Clean up locations include Rocks River and Brewton Bridge landings. We'll bring supplies -- you bring your enthusiasm!

Legal advocacy

As part of Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s mission to protect, preserve, and improve the water quality in our basin, ORK makes official comments and joins sign-on letters. Recent comments:

Earth Day in Guyton

Ogeechee Riverkeeper will be at the Earth Day Festival, hosted by Effingham Georgia Green and the City of Guyton. On Saturday, April 20, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., come out and enjoy food, craft, and sale vendors as well as the Earth Day Festival, using hands-on activities to educate about green issues specifically in Effingham County and surrounding areas, motivating visitors to make their communities greener places.

Flooding survey

Are you tired of seeing more flooding in our coastal counties due to development? Report it. Your input keep us informed, but it also helps organizations like ORK, Savannah Riverkeeper, and One Hundred Miles track water incursions.

Flora: Spartina alterniflora

Spartina marsh grass (recently renamed by some botanists as Sporobolus alterniflora) is a hardy perennial grass species that thrives in the salty, and brackish marshy habitats along Georgia coastlines. Characterized by tall, slender stems and vibrant green foliage, spartina serves as a cornerstone of coastal ecosystems, providing a multitude of benefits to both wildlife and humans alike.
