Welcome, Carly!

Our newest staff member is Carly Nielsen, our Upper Watershed Representative. She is based near Sparta, Georgia, and will help ORK track issues in the northern part of our watershed.

Carly is a South Florida native who was raised in Georgia, and was taught a love for the outdoors and exploring new places from her parents and grandparents. Carly loves traveling the world and visiting different places. Some of her favorite destinations are Costa Rica, Greece, Italy, and Croatia.

May 24 is #NationalScavengerHunt Day!

Ogeechee Riverkeeper encourages you to get out and explore the Ogeechee and Canoochee watershed. The challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to photograph the items on this list. All are welcome to play for fun, but there are prizes for those that wish to compete.

Post and tag your images with the what3words locations for double points. What3words has even agreed to add to the prize package! Submit your list and photos by June 30 to enter.

Botany & Brews: Tree Walk at Skidaway Island State Park

Tree expert Sydney Young will lead a guided tour of tree species found throughout the park with an emphasis on their importance to our watershed’s health. This members-only event will be held June 4. Please register in advance.

ORK at Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting

This past week, Board Member Dr. Checo Colon-Gaud’s research lab and ORK's research fellow were able to attend the Joint Aquatic Sciences Meeting (JASM) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to share our research with the broader scientific community. Scientific conferences are one of the best ways for scientists to connect with the larger research community to enhance and spread ORK's research impact.

Follow us on Flickr!

We've got several photo albums on Flickr and you can see them all. With pictures from our cleanups, education events, school visits, and more, you can see what ORK is up to and be inspired to get out there yourself.
